Length: 14.6-15.3 in (37-39 cm)

Probably the most common hawk in the Catalina Foothills. Adults are steely blue-gray above with warm horizontal reddish bars on the underparts and thick dark bands on the tail. Juveniles are brown above and have vertical brown streaks on the upper breast. The top photo is an adult, the bottom, a chick that had fallen out of the nest in the wood near the dam at Lower Sabino. It was right on the path. I placed warning logs on the path either side of it and left it for the parents to take care of.
