White-winged Doves remain well south of the Mexican border the end of April they arrive in our area until the beginning of September. Nest building, mating and egg laying are timed such that the fruiting of the saguaro cactus coincides with the young at their hungriest as shown in the bottom photograph. The new season's fledglings are on the wing by mid July. White-winged Doves are light gray/brown with a white area on the wing. When the wings are folded, this area looks like a white stripe on the leading edge of the wing. They have pretty faces with blue skin around their red-orange eyes.
