Lake Cochise is just outside the City of Willcox, Arizona, on Rex Allen Jr. Drive, a small lake that attracts waterfowl and other birds. I visited the lake for the first time on April 14th and 15th, 2023 and was impressed by the quantity and variety of birdlife in and around the lake. I signed up for the Shorebird ID Workshop offered by the Tucson Audubon Society. The workshop focused on the identification of shorebirds in their alternate (breeding) plumage as they stopover in Arizona before reaching their breeding grounds to the north. While the workshop was interesting and informative, it didn't offer opportunity for photography as the species we viewed were too far away even for my 500mm lens with 1.4 extender. I captured most of these images the afernoon/evening before the workshop. I need to return with my blind as I saw many species that I would have liked to photograph.
