Wilson’s Snipe is a medium-sized, stocky shorebird measuring 9.1–11.0 inches in length with a wingspan of 15–18 inches, and weighing roughly 2.8–5.2 oz. In Arizona, it occurs primarily as a spring (March–April) and fall (September–December) migrant and occasional winter visitor, frequenting sedge-dominated marshes, wet meadows, flooded agricultural fields, and roadside ditches; birds are most active at dawn and dusk when they probe soft mud for insect larvae and earthworms with their long, flexible bills.
